Executive brief

DrayTek VigorSwitch is a network switch appliance used to manage and route traffic in enterprise environments. A command injection vulnerability in the setDevProto function allows authenticated administrators with valid credentials to execute arbitrary commands with root-level privileges on the device, potentially compromising network infrastructure and customer data.

Technical details

The vulnerability is an OS command injection (CWE-78) in the setDevProto function of the VigorSwitch mainfunction.cgi component, caused by insufficient input filtering of username and password fields before command execution. Attack vector is network-based and requires valid administrative credentials and authentication to the device's web management interface. A successful exploit allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands with root privileges on the affected appliance. Patches have been released by DrayTek with fixed firmware versions for all affected models (ranging from 2.9.10 to 3.10.6 depending on model).
