Executive brief

DrayTek VigorSwitch is a managed network switch used in corporate and ISP environments. A buffer overflow vulnerability in the email logging function allows authenticated administrators to trigger a denial of service or potentially execute arbitrary commands on the affected appliance, requiring administrative access to the device's web interface.

Technical details

A classic buffer overflow (CWE-120) exists in the diag_logmail function where multiple SMTP receiver email addresses are concatenated into a fixed-size buffer without bounds checking. The vulnerability is reachable only to authenticated users with administrative credentials on the device's web management interface (network-accessible). A malicious administrator can craft oversized or specially crafted email address input to overflow the buffer, achieving denial of service or arbitrary code execution on the switch. Patches are available for all affected models; users should upgrade to the recommended firmware versions.
