Executive brief

DrayTek VigorSwitch is a network switch appliance used in enterprise environments for data switching and traffic management. A command injection flaw in the web management interface allows authenticated administrators to execute arbitrary system commands with root privileges on affected switches. An attacker with valid admin credentials could gain complete control of the switch, potentially disrupting network operations or accessing sensitive network traffic.

Technical details

The vulnerability is an OS command injection (CWE-78) in the fdftDevice function within the VigorSwitch mainfunction.cgi component. The root cause is insufficient input filtering of username and password fields before their use in shell command execution. The attack vector is network-based via the device's web management interface, but requires valid administrative credentials for authentication. A successful exploit allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands with root-level privileges on the affected appliance. DrayTek has released patched firmware versions for all affected models.
