Executive brief

DrayTek VigorSwitch is a managed network switch used in enterprise environments to control data traffic and network access. A command injection vulnerability in the device's web management interface allows authenticated administrators to execute arbitrary system commands with root-level privileges by submitting specially crafted input. This could enable a compromised admin account or an attacker with admin access to take complete control of the switch and potentially the entire network infrastructure.

Technical details

The vulnerability is an OS command injection (CWE-78) in the setDevice function of the mainfunction.cgi component. The flaw stems from insufficient sanitization of the username, password, and location fields before their use in command execution. The attack vector is network-based and requires valid administrative credentials to the device's web management interface. A successful exploit allows arbitrary command execution with root privileges on the affected appliance. DrayTek has released patched firmware for all affected models with specific fixed versions (ranging from 2.9.10 to 3.10.6 depending on model).
