Executive brief

DrayTek VigorSwitch is a network switch used to manage and route data across enterprise networks. A command injection vulnerability in the device's web management interface allows an authenticated administrator to execute arbitrary system commands with root privileges by sending specially crafted usernames or passwords. This could enable a malicious insider or compromised admin account to take complete control of the network infrastructure.

Technical details

The vulnerability is an OS command injection (CWE-78) in the auth_set function of the VigorSwitch mainfunction.cgi component, caused by insufficient input validation on username and password fields before command execution. The attack requires valid administrative credentials and network access to the device's web management interface. A successful exploit allows an attacker to execute arbitrary commands with root privileges on the affected switch. DrayTek has released firmware patches for all affected models; administrators should upgrade to the patched versions immediately.
