Executive brief

DrayTek VigorSwitch is a network switch used to manage and route traffic in enterprise environments. A command injection vulnerability in the device's web management interface allows authenticated administrators to execute arbitrary system commands with root privileges through crafted input. An attacker with valid admin credentials could compromise the switch and gain control over the organization's network infrastructure.

Technical details

The vulnerability is a command injection flaw (CWE-78) in the jsonstatus function of the mainfunction.cgi component. Insufficient input validation on the usescript, usefile, and option parameters allows an attacker to inject arbitrary OS commands. The attack requires valid administrative credentials to authenticate to the switch's web management interface, after which specially crafted input can be submitted to execute commands with root privileges. The injected commands execute in the context of the root user, providing full system compromise. Fixed firmware versions are available for all affected models.
