CVE-2026-97829 · Severity: medium · CVSS 6.5 · Published 2026-10-13

A flaw in Windows DNS Server, the service that translates domain names to IP addresses for network communication, allows an authorized attacker to read memory beyond intended boundaries and disclose sensitive information across the network. This could expose configuration data, cached credentials, or other server memory contents to an attacker with network access and valid credentials.

## Technical details

An out-of-bounds read vulnerability in Windows DNS Server permits an authenticated network attacker to disclose information by reading memory outside allocated buffer boundaries. The vulnerability requires prior authentication and network access to the DNS service. Successful exploitation results in information disclosure but not code execution or denial of service.
