CVE-2026-97821 · Severity: medium · CVSS 6.5 · Published 2026-10-13

Microsoft DNS Server, which handles domain name resolution for networks, is vulnerable to an out-of-bounds read that allows an authorized attacker to access sensitive information. An attacker with network access to the DNS service could exploit this to disclose confidential data, potentially revealing system or configuration details that could be used in further attacks.

## Technical details

An out-of-bounds read vulnerability exists in Microsoft DNS Server where an authorized attacker can craft network requests to trigger memory access beyond allocated buffer boundaries. The vulnerability requires network access to the DNS service and valid credentials or authorization. Successful exploitation results in information disclosure of server memory contents.
