CVE-2026-96233: .NET System.Runtime DateTime parsing out-of-bounds read

CVE-2026-96233 · Severity: high · CVSS 7.5 · Published 2026-10-13

.NET is the runtime framework that executes applications built on Microsoft's development platform, used across Windows, Linux, and macOS. A flaw in DateTime Hebrew-number parsing can cause an application to crash by reading memory outside expected bounds, leading to denial of service. An attacker with network access could exploit this by sending specially crafted input to trigger the vulnerability in affected .NET applications.

Technologies: Microsoft .Net, Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.linux-arm (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.linux-arm64 (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.linux-musl-arm (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.linux-musl-arm64 (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.linux-musl-x64 (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.linux-x64 (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.osx-arm64 (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.osx-x64 (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.win-arm (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.win-arm64 (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.win-x64 (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.win-x86 (NuGet). Vendors: Microsoft, NuGet.

Am I affected by CVE-2026-96233?
Check whether you run Microsoft .Net, Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.linux-arm (NuGet), Microsoft.NetCore.App.Runtime.linux-arm64 (NuGet) or one of the others listed at an affected version. Junglewise does that check for you around the clock: connect your code, cloud and domains, and it matches new vulnerabilities like this one against what you actually run and tells you when one reaches you.

How to fix

  • Fixed in: .NET 8.0.32, 9.0.21, 10.0.13, 11.0.0-rc.2

Technical details

The vulnerability is an out-of-bounds read (CWE-787) in System.Runtime's DateTime Hebrew-number parsing logic that can read outside expected stack bounds and terminate the process. Exploitation requires crafted input to DateTime parsing functions with Hebrew numerals and is network-accessible in applications that accept such input. No authentication is required, and the result is denial of service via process termination.
