CVE-2026-96219: Windows Local Security Authority Subsystem Service out-of-bounds write

CVE-2026-96219 · Severity: critical · CVSS 9.8 · Published 2026-10-13

The Local Security Authority Subsystem Service (LSASS) in Windows handles user authentication and credential management for all systems on a network. An out-of-bounds write vulnerability in this service allows an attacker on the network to execute code with system-level privileges, potentially compromising an entire machine or domain.

Technical details

An out-of-bounds write vulnerability in the Windows LSASS component allows remote code execution without authentication via a network attack vector. The vulnerability permits an attacker to write data beyond allocated memory boundaries, leading to arbitrary code execution with the privileges of the LSASS process. A patch is expected from Microsoft.
