Executive brief

The Feedzy RSS Aggregator plugin for WordPress, which is used to automatically import and post content from RSS feeds, contains a security flaw that allows lower-level users to perform administrative actions. An attacker with basic contributor access can delete existing posts, create unauthorized import jobs, and view internal site metadata. This could lead to unauthorized content changes or the disruption of automated news feeds on the website.

Technical details

The Feedzy RSS Aggregator plugin for WordPress (versions up to 5.1.7) fails to implement proper capability checks on several administrative sub-handlers within the feedzy-rss-feeds-import.php file. While these actions are protected by nonces, the required nonce is leaked to any user with 'edit_posts' capabilities via the 'feedzyjs' localized script in the block editor. This combination allows authenticated attackers with Contributor-level permissions or higher to bypass intended authorization. Exploitation enables attackers to create/execute RSS import jobs, force-delete posts associated with any import job, clear error logs, and enumerate taxonomy terms or post meta keys.
