CVE-2026-88130 · Severity: medium · CVSS 6.5 · Published 2026-10-13

Microsoft DNS Server contains an out-of-bounds read vulnerability that allows an authenticated attacker to crash the DNS service, causing service disruption for DNS queries across an organization's network. An attacker with network access and valid credentials can trigger this condition to deny legitimate DNS resolution requests.

## Technical details

An out-of-bounds read vulnerability in Microsoft DNS Server allows an authorized attacker to craft a malicious DNS query that reads memory beyond allocated buffer boundaries, causing the DNS service to crash. This requires network access and valid authentication credentials. The resulting denial of service prevents DNS resolution until the service is restarted.
