CVE-2026-88122 · Severity: medium · CVSS 6.5 · Published 2026-10-13

An out-of-bounds read vulnerability in Microsoft DNS Server allows an authenticated attacker to cause a denial of service over the network. An attacker with network access and valid credentials could craft a malicious DNS request to crash the DNS service, disrupting domain name resolution for affected organizations.

## Technical details

An out-of-bounds read vulnerability exists in Microsoft DNS Server's DNS request processing logic. An authenticated attacker with network access can send a specially crafted DNS packet that triggers the out-of-bounds read, causing the DNS service to crash and deny service. The vulnerability requires authentication and network access but does not allow code execution or data extraction.
