CVE-2026-83889 · Severity: high · CVSS 8.8 · Published 2026-10-13

Microsoft DNS Server contains a vulnerability where an invalid pointer or reference is released, allowing an authorized network attacker to execute arbitrary code on affected systems. This could lead to complete compromise of DNS infrastructure and potentially enable attackers to intercept or manipulate network traffic.

## Technical details

A use-after-free or similar pointer management flaw in DNS Server permits code execution when an invalid pointer or reference is released. An authorized attacker can trigger this condition over the network to execute code with DNS Server privileges, potentially compromising DNS resolution and enabling further lateral movement.
