Executive brief

FluentCRM, a popular WordPress plugin for email marketing and customer relationship management, contains a security flaw that could allow attackers to use your web server as a proxy. By exploiting this vulnerability, an unauthorized person could force your website to send requests to internal or external systems, potentially exposing sensitive internal data or interacting with private services. This risk is highest for new installations that have not yet configured their email bounce handling settings.

Technical details

A Blind Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability exists in FluentCRM's ExternalPages.php handler due to insufficient validation of the 'SubscribeURL' parameter. Unauthenticated attackers can trigger arbitrary web requests from the application server, which can be leveraged to probe internal network services or interact with cloud metadata endpoints. The vulnerability is exploitable only if the SES bounce handling key ('_fc_bounce_key') has not been initialized; once a site administrator visits the bounce configuration page, a random key is generated and stored, which effectively mitigates the unauthenticated access path. Users should update to a version beyond 2.9.87 or ensure their bounce handling configuration is initialized.
