Executive brief
Mozilla Firefox and Thunderbird were found to contain multiple memory safety vulnerabilities. These applications are widely used for web browsing and email communication. If exploited, these flaws could allow an attacker to crash the application or potentially execute unauthorized code on a user's computer, leading to data theft or full system compromise. Users should update to the latest versions immediately to mitigate these risks.
Technical details
Mozilla developers identified several memory safety bugs across Firefox, Firefox ESR, and Thunderbird. These vulnerabilities include issues such as out-of-bounds reads/writes and use-after-free conditions. An attacker could potentially exploit these flaws by enticing a user to visit a specially crafted website or open a malicious email, leading to memory corruption. Mozilla presumes that with sufficient effort, some of these bugs could be leveraged for remote code execution (RCE). The vulnerabilities are addressed in Firefox 150, Firefox ESR 115.35, Firefox ESR 140.10, Thunderbird 150, and Thunderbird 140.10.
