Executive brief
A vulnerability was identified in the Linux kernel's USB driver for OMAP2430 devices. The issue involves a memory management error where the system attempts to access data after it has already been released. This could potentially lead to system instability or a crash, affecting the reliability of devices using this specific hardware component.
Technical details
A use-after-free vulnerability exists in the Linux kernel within the `drivers/usb/musb/omap2430.c` component. The root cause is a premature call to `of_node_put(np)` in the `omap2430_probe()` function before the final access to the device tree node `np`. If the node's reference count drops to zero, subsequent access results in a use-after-free. An attacker with local access could potentially trigger this condition during device probing to cause a kernel oops or denial of service. The issue has been resolved by moving the `of_node_put()` calls to occur after the last use of the node in both success and error execution paths.
