CVE-2026-58532: Microsoft Windows Kernel integer overflow privilege escalation

CVE-2026-58532 · Severity: high · CVSS 7.8 · Published 2026-07-14

Technologies: Microsoft Windows Server 2012, Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Windows 11. Vendors: Microsoft.

Executive brief

A vulnerability in the Windows Kernel could allow a user who is already logged into a system to gain full administrative control. The Windows Kernel is the core part of the operating system that manages hardware and system resources. If exploited, an attacker could bypass security restrictions to access sensitive data, install malicious software, or disrupt business operations.

Technical details

An integer overflow or wraparound vulnerability (CWE-190) exists within the Windows Kernel. The flaw is triggered when the kernel improperly handles specific arithmetic operations, leading to memory corruption or logic errors. An attacker with local access and low-level privileges can exploit this to execute code in kernel mode, effectively gaining full SYSTEM privileges. The attack requires no user interaction but does require the attacker to have an existing authorized account on the target machine. Microsoft has released security updates to address this issue across various versions of Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server 2012.
