Vendors: Microsoft.

Executive brief

A security vulnerability exists in Windows WebView, a component used by many applications to display web content. An attacker who already has basic access to a computer could exploit this flaw to gain higher-level administrative privileges. This could allow them to take full control of the system, access sensitive data, or bypass security restrictions.

Technical details

A use-after-free (UAF) vulnerability exists in the Windows WebView component (CWE-416). The flaw is triggered when the system attempts to access memory that has already been deallocated, leading to memory corruption. An attacker with low-privileged local access can exploit this condition to execute code with elevated privileges. The attack requires a local presence and is characterized by high complexity, but it does not require user interaction. Microsoft has released security updates to address this issue across various versions of Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server.
