Technical details
This vulnerability is classified as an out-of-bounds read (CWE-125) within Microsoft Office components. The flaw occurs when the application reads data past the end of the intended buffer, which can be triggered by a specially crafted file. An attacker requires local access and must rely on user interaction (UI:R), such as convincing a user to open a malicious document, to successfully exploit the bug. Successful exploitation allows the attacker to disclose sensitive information from the process memory. Microsoft has released security updates to address this issue across affected Office and SharePoint versions.
