Executive brief
A security vulnerability has been identified in Microsoft Printer Drivers, which are components used by Windows to communicate with printing hardware. An attacker who already has basic access to a computer could exploit this flaw to gain full administrative control over the system. This could allow them to install malicious software, view or delete sensitive data, or disrupt business operations.
Technical details
A double free vulnerability (CWE-415) exists within Microsoft Printer Drivers. The flaw is triggered when the driver attempts to free the same memory location twice, leading to potential memory corruption. An attacker with low-privileged local access can exploit this condition to execute arbitrary code with elevated privileges, such as SYSTEM. The vulnerability is reachable via local vectors and does not require user interaction. Microsoft has released security updates to address this issue across various versions of Windows and Windows Server.
