Executive brief
A vulnerability was identified in the Linux kernel's display driver for Arm Komeda hardware. The flaw exists in how the system validates the size of video memory buffers, which could allow a local user to trigger a system crash or potentially access restricted memory. This affects the stability and reliability of systems using specific Arm-based display processors.
Technical details
An integer overflow exists in the 'komeda_fb_afbc_size_check' function within 'drivers/gpu/drm/arm/display/komeda/komeda_framebuffer.c'. The vulnerability occurs when calculating the minimum required buffer size by adding the AFBC payload size to the framebuffer offset without overflow validation. A local attacker can provide malformed framebuffer parameters from userspace that cause the addition to overflow, bypassing size checks and allowing the use of an undersized 'drm_gem_object'. This can result in out-of-bounds memory access. The fix implements 'check_add_overflow()' to safely perform the calculation.
