Executive brief
A security vulnerability exists in the core user interface component of Microsoft Windows. An attacker who already has basic access to a computer could exploit this flaw to gain full administrative control over the system. This could allow them to view sensitive data, install malicious software, or disrupt business operations.
Technical details
A relative path traversal vulnerability (CWE-23) exists in the Windows User Interface Core. The flaw allows a locally authenticated attacker with low privileges to manipulate file paths to access or execute files outside of intended directories. By successfully exploiting this vulnerability, an attacker can elevate their privileges to SYSTEM level. The vulnerability affects various versions of Windows 11 and Windows Server 2025. Microsoft has released security updates to address this issue.
