CVE-2026-50306: Microsoft Windows TCP/IP use after free privilege escalation

CVE-2026-50306 · Severity: high · CVSS 7.8 · Published 2026-07-14

Technologies: Microsoft Windows Server 2012, Microsoft Windows 10, Microsoft Windows 11. Vendors: Microsoft.

Executive brief

A security vulnerability exists in the Windows networking component (TCP/IP) that could allow a user with basic access to a computer to gain full administrative control. This flaw could be used by an attacker who has already gained a foothold on a system to bypass security restrictions and access sensitive data or install malicious software. The issue affects multiple versions of Windows 10, Windows 11, and Windows Server.

Technical details

This vulnerability is a use-after-free (UAF) flaw within the Windows TCP/IP stack, potentially triggered by an underlying integer overflow (CWE-190). An attacker must have local access and be authenticated with low privileges (PR:L) to exploit the flaw. By successfully triggering the memory corruption, the attacker can achieve local privilege escalation (LPE), gaining SYSTEM-level permissions. The vulnerability is reachable via local vectors and does not require user interaction. Microsoft has released security updates to address this issue across affected Windows and Windows Server versions.
