Ubiquiti UniFi OS, which manages networking hardware like routers and access points, contains a security flaw that allows a user with low-level access to gain full administrative control. An attacker already on the network could exploit this to bypass security restrictions, potentially leading to full system takeover or unauthorized access to sensitive network traffic. This poses a significant risk to the integrity and privacy of the managed network environment.
Technical details
An improper input validation vulnerability (CWE-20) exists in certain versions of Ubiquiti UniFi OS. The flaw allows an authenticated attacker with low-level privileges to submit specially crafted input that the system fails to properly sanitize, leading to a privilege escalation. The attack is network-reachable and requires no user interaction. Because the CVSS vector includes a Scope change (S:C), the impact may extend beyond the UniFi OS instance itself to the underlying host or managed devices.
