Executive brief
A vulnerability in macOS could allow a malicious application to crash the computer or gain unauthorized access to sensitive system memory. This affects the core operating system used on Apple laptops and desktops. If exploited, an attacker could potentially bypass security protections or cause a complete system failure.
Technical details
A memory handling vulnerability exists in the macOS kernel across multiple versions, including Sequoia, Sonoma, and Tahoe. The flaw allows a locally installed malicious application to trigger an unexpected system termination (denial of service) or perform unauthorized writes to kernel memory. The root cause was identified as improper memory management, which Apple addressed by improving memory handling logic. Exploitation requires the attacker to have the ability to run code on the target system. Patches are available in macOS Sequoia 15.7.8, macOS Sonoma 14.8.8, and macOS Tahoe 26.6.
