Executive brief
MoviePilot, an automated media library management tool for NAS devices, contains a security flaw in its application interface. This vulnerability allows a standard logged-in user to access sensitive system settings and secrets that should only be visible to administrators. An attacker could use this information to gain deeper access to the system or compromise connected services.
Technical details
An improper authorization vulnerability (CWE-285/CWE-266) exists in the Application API of jxxghp MoviePilot versions up to 2.13.5. The flaw stems from insufficient permission checks on sensitive system endpoints, which were incorrectly accessible to any authenticated user rather than being restricted to superusers. A remote attacker with low-privileged user credentials can exploit this to read system settings and secrets. The issue was addressed in commit dc2b6910a423b3bfadeffaa303e1ba75cfb33900 by replacing general token verification with a strict superuser check (get_current_active_superuser).
