Executive brief

The All-in-One Video Gallery plugin for WordPress, which is used to manage and display video content, contains a security flaw that allows users with basic account access to perform unauthorized actions. An attacker can trick the web server into making requests to internal systems or external websites that should be restricted. This could lead to the exposure of sensitive internal data or the modification of information on internal services not normally accessible from the internet.

Technical details

The All-in-One Video Gallery plugin for WordPress is vulnerable to Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) due to insufficient validation of the 'vdl' parameter. An authenticated attacker with subscriber-level permissions can exploit this by using XML-RPC 'wp.newPost' to inject a malicious internal or loopback URL into the 'mp4' post meta of a new 'aiovg_videos' post. By subsequently accessing the unauthenticated '?vdl=<post_id>' endpoint, the attacker forces the server to fetch the specified URL and stream the full response body back to them. This vulnerability allows for internal port scanning, interaction with internal services, and potential data exfiltration from the local network. The issue is present in all versions up to and including 4.8.5.
