CVE-2026-103537 · Severity: medium · CVSS 5.4 · Published 2026-10-12

Thelia is an open-source e-commerce platform that manages online storefronts and product catalogs. A vulnerability in its Smarty template engine allows authorized users to reference arbitrary files on the server's filesystem, which can then be executed as code with the web server's privileges. This could enable an attacker with administrative access to take complete control of the e-commerce platform and underlying server.

## Technical details

The checkTemplate() validation in Thelia 2.6.1 blocks relative path traversal sequences (../) but fails to reject absolute filesystem paths, allowing an authenticated user to load arbitrary files as Smarty templates. Smarty then compiles and executes the template code without effective security restrictions. Successful exploitation requires authorized user access and depends on filesystem layout, but can result in arbitrary code execution with web server privileges.
